Winter Cleaning
This site gets a long overdue overhaul.

There were a lot of maintenance due on this site, so last night I finally got around to doing them. (This might have something to do with me being home alone with absolutely no distractions …)
I updated to the latest version of Textpattern, which was as simple as logging on to my server, going to the site root directory and doing a svn update. I think I was at revision three-hundred-and-something, but this update brought me to revision 2241! Wow, I really was way behind.
Then I checked out some great new plugins, of which only Wilshire|one’s rss_pluginstaller appealed to me. That is, my interest in many of his other plugins made the PlugInstaller a natural choice.
I did take a look at The Multilingual Publishing Pack, as I’ve long had a desire to also write in Norwegian — for those posts that simply won’t work outside our national borders. But it looks like the MLP does too much for my needs and would probably break the functionality of other plugins I depend on. So I’ll probably try and make do with sections and/or categories instead.
I’ve installed LiveSearch (see the search box top right) and LiveArchive (see the Archive page).
I also fixed the stupid front page which repeated the first five articles in the “Older articles” list at the bottom, and cleaned up the looks a bit. (Actually, there was some strange stuff in the code that makes me suspect I stopped working on it before I was finished. Maybe the milk for my coffee boiled over and I had to run off to the kitchen, and then I forgot what I was doing …)
A month or so ago I installed Google AdSense, which so far hasn’t earned me a single cent — but then again, I wasn’t suspecting it would yet, with my amount of traffic. I’ll be looking into driving traffic in the near future.
I’ve taken some steps toward that end by installing tru_tags for adding Technorati tags to my posts, which I hope will make my site more visible.
And finally, new header and background images extracted from the same picture, taken on one of my daily trips back from work by train.
